A bit about my work

Hi

I am a ceramic artist living and working in Hay-on-Wye, where I make my one-of a-kind, ceramic figures. I'm mostly self-taught, with all my work being hand-built, using slab and coiling techniques.

My eerie, folklore-inspired, expressive totems are infused with magical properties and function as genius familiae - elemental spirits, who preside over and guard a family or household. Heard of genius loci – spirit of place? Well these piece function the same way, but instead of protecting a piece of land, or landmark, such as a mountain, or forest, my little totems protect dwellings.

My work is constantly evolving and I like to think that my little sculptures are modern day folk art, inspired by animism.

My Genius Familiae spirit beings can be functional as well as decorative, for use on altars.

My Genius Familiae serve as reminders that there is more to this life than meets the eye, while uniting the earthly with the mystical.

My pieces have recently found a devoted following, thanks in part to the growing folklore revival and folk horror revival movements.
